Equine bodywork not only helps facilitate healing, it can also help with behavior, trust, and performance-related issues. Read testimonials below from clients who describe how Lucy's trust in humans was restored, Tuffy's and Farah's performance and responsiveness improved, how the elderly Nikki became revitalized, Oliver became more cooperative, and Chili more relaxed.
Although beneficial results can be seen after the first session, it may take multiple sessions to see lasting changes. The process is unique to each horse and is like peeling off layers of an onion with superficial issues being resolved before deeper ones are revealed. My clients have ranged from Clydesdales to ponies and from Grand Prix athletes to therapy horses. Owners can also easily learn how to use some basic techniques...

"Renee is both in-tune with the horse's communication and sensitive to their needs in every situation. I love how she is totally present, all the time.
She was able to get our mare, Lucy, to really start to trust people again after enduring significant injury after a trailer accident."
"Tuffy was much more relaxed...he was stopping amazing!! He hasn't stopped that good in a long time. He was feeling great!!
And I was so relaxed after watching the session, I yawned for the next 30 minutes."
- Felicia, Colorado Springs
"Andy, my heart horse, was the first of my 3 Clydesdales and one spicy pony to have bodywork with Renee. I was not prepared for how much impact the work would have on me as I watched - I'm not sure who yawned more, me or Andy. Then to watch my elderly mare, NIkki, with an old pelvis injury charge in out of the pasture and be the first one to the gate after her first session was astounding.
It was a joy getting to experience a healer work in your presence."
"[After learning some basic techniques during Oliver's first session], I've now been able to use soft touch and intention to facilitate Oliver lifting his feet for hoof cleaning! And along his back to settle him during grooming and/or tacking."
-Julie, Colorado Springs
"Renee is very professional, always keeps me updated after sessions, and is great at reading the horses' body language. She can tell what is not enough or too much for each horse. Tootsie can be a big challenge but Renee made a great connection with her."
"I am personally much more aware now of how my saddle and my own body position contribute to Twin's tension patterns. I was thankful for what Renee found on Twin and subsequently bought him a 5 Star saddle pad to provide him with more comfort in his old age as it was difficult to find a saddle that fit perfectly."
- Melba, Colorado Springs

The accumulation of tension can take its toll over time as deeper core and postural muscles begin to tighten in order to compensate for pain or for muscles that are no longer able to do their job. Bodywork helps to improve physical health and performance through the release of stored tension and restriction as well as emotional health by promoting trust and respect.

The Masterson Method® is a unique, interactive method of equine bodywork in which the practitioner works with the horse to find and release tension and restriction. In contrast to traditional massage, it works with the horse’s nervous system. The horse actively participates in the process through its body language as it reveals areas of tension and moments of release. This integrated approach uses a combination of light touch techniques, pressure, myofascial release, joint movement, and the horse's energy state to help the horse release tension and restrictions in core muscles and key junctions that most affect performance.
Therapeutic equine massage is an intentional and focused hands-on method that uses long strokes and kneading techniques in order to manipulate muscles and skin. These techniques not only improve muscle and skin tone, but also stimulate blood and lymph circulation which facilitate the healing process.
Equine bodywork has been shown to facilitate healing of acquired stringhalt (Brockman 2017), improve cardiovascular and physical performance in race horses (Kowalick 2017), and help reduce pain and stress-related behavior as well as improve motor control and flexibility in sport horses. Massage and bodywork modalities have been utilized by equine hospitals, private practitioners, and rehabilitation centers world wide to address a variety of rehabilitation and performance issues. In addition to performance maintenance, these techniques are used most commonly for improvement of poor performance, facilitating healing of neck and back injuries, and relief of generalized muscle strain.
